ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marcía studied art and design at the University of Washington and at U.C.L.A. She later studied illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. She made and sold art quilts (pieced and appliqued) and rubber stamps for many years before she settled in to her ongoing love of painting.

For twenty-five years Marcia has studied Jungian Archetypes, Tarot symbolism and indigenous cultures, as well as tropical plants, animals, fish and birds. She has explored her inner world through intensive dream work as well as through active meditation techniques.

She lives in Oakland with her husband Gary. He takes care of the business side of Illustrated Journey Artworks and valiantly tries to keep Marcía grounded.
They travel to warm lands as often as possible.

FACTS ABOUT THE ART

The original paintings are watercolor and gouache (opaque watercolor). The gouache is done in a flat technique traditionally used in fabric design; it works well for patterning, fine detailing, and juxtapositioning many colors. The paper is Arches cold pressed and the paint is Windsor and Newton professional quality. Only colors with a good colorfast rating are used, but any watercolor should not be hung in direct sunlight.
